Anne,

*Please* get in touch with the folks at Feet First, www.feetfirst.info - part and parcel of Feet First's mission is helping work on problems like this.

Given the road diet already in place on MLK, putting a pedestrian refuge island at Marion, for instance, with a marked crosswalk should be a relatively easy process for the City. The key is going to be to get the neighborhoods (CD and Madrona) organized around the issue to start making noise with the political types.

Dan--I have been trying to get a crosswalk or some other pedestrian-encouraging measures across MLK between E. Union and E. Cherry. I have heard and read conflicting things from the city -- one department tells me it is not an appropriate place for a crosswalk, and yet the city's Central Area Action Plan advocates a crosswalk in that exact location. I have been trying to get a response from the people at the Pedestrian Master Plan but my e-mails go unanswered. I am trying to spark some sort of effort to get them to listen to residents here and do something that would actually make this area more pedestrian (and bike) friendly. I would love to speak with you on what your experience has been concerning a crosswalk on 23rd.

Please contact me if you have time.

Thanks so much,
Anne
